Frequently Asked Questions

Find clear answers to your questions about our work promoting racial equity and supporting families in our community.

What is REP?

The Peirce Racial Equity Parents’ group (REP) is a caregiver-led organization dedicated to promoting racial equity and inclusion at Peirce School. We organize volunteers to foster parent engagement through community building, education, advocacy, and celebration.

Why does REP exist?

REP was formed in response to changing demographics at Peirce and the recognition that students of color have experienced harm and inequitable outcomes. We aim to collectively disrupt social norms, reinforce racial equity, and ensure that students and families of color are not left behind.

How does REP support racial equity at Peirce?

REP supports racial equity by centering children and families of color and amplifying their lived experiences. We create programs to support them, such as social events, educational speakers, and book clubs. REP also challenges white families to unlearn racism and white supremacy through education and conversation.

Who can join REP?

All caregivers are welcome to participate in REP. We encourage caregivers of color to provide input and white parents to shoulder the responsibility of taking action.

How is REP’s leadership structured?

REP practices shared leadership, with a belief that the group is strongest when it centers those closest to the harm, listens to community feedback, and works together.

  • The use of an equity lens by parent organizations and Local School Council (LSC) representatives.
